($200.00 p/p DEPOSIT REQUIRED FOR THIS TOUR) ITINERARY FOR 2005/2006 (8 nights/9 days): (Itinerary subject to change if conditions warrant): Day 1 – Check in with Virgin Blue at Melbourne/Sydney Airport with your photo ID at least one hour prior to our flight (flights TBA). Meet the rest of the group at the Virgin Blue Departure Lounge. Your Coach Captain from Travel with a Cause will meet you and we will spend the day at Port Arthur Historic Site. Our tour guide brings the past alive as we visit the penal colony ruins and cruise to the Isle of the Dead. (Optional Ghost Tours available). Stay Lufra Hotel, Eaglehawk Neck Day 2 – We depart Port Arthur to visit Richmond, with its beautiful & historic Catholic Church & the Richmond Bridge built in 1823-1825. We return to Hobart & head to Mt. Nelson for an incredible view of this beautiful harbour city. We show you more of the city's sights, including Battery Point, Sandy Bay, Constitution Dock & a visit to WestPoint Casino. Dinner & two nights stay, at the 4 ˝ -star Hadley’s Hotel, a National Trust masterpiece. Day 3 – This morning we visit the Cadbury Factory, where you can eat as much chocolate as you like. In the afternoon we take a trip south to Huonville (apple capital of Tasmania), returning to Hobart via Kettering & Snug. Stay second night in Hobart at Hadley’s. Day 4 – Before departing Hobart we visit the famous Salamanca Markets for a wonderful shopping & tasting experience (don’t miss some of the workshops and galleries in the warehouse buildings as well). We then head to the West Coast with its unique wilderness scenery, traveling via the world heritage area of the Franklin and Gordon Rivers. We arrive at Queenstown, a mining town set amongst unique "moonscape" hills. It’s then off to the sea side village of Strahan where you will spend the next 2 nights at the Strahan Village. Day 5 – Today we board the Wanderer II @ 8:45am for a cruise of a lifetime. We cruise to Hell's Gates, marvelling at this narrow & treacherous entrance to Macquarie Harbour that 168 years ago represented the beginning of a terrible ordeal for the convicts. We then head up the pristine and mirror-like Gordon River arriving at Heritage Landing for a spectacular rainforest walk to view a rare and ancient 2000-year-old Huon Pine tree. We return to Strahan for our second night. Day 6 – Today we head for Wynyard; travelling via Zeehan, & through the mining towns of Rosebery, Renison Bell (largest tin mine in the southern hemisphere) & Tullah before arriving into Cradle Mountain. Walk through the visitors centre or take a walk to the many waterfalls. We continue onto Table Cape (view Tulips between Oct – Nov) for a beautiful coastline view. Stay Best Western Murchison lodge, Somerset Day 7 – We depart Wynyard travelling down the coast to Burnie, Penguin & into Sheffield famous for its murals. We continue onto the Ashgrove Cheese Factory. Then it’s off to the famous tapestry township of Deloraine. We finish our day in the graceful city of Launceston, we show you the monkeys at the Botanical Gardens and visit the majestic Cataract Gorge. Stay Launceston, Country Club & Villas for two nights. Day 8 – Today we travel along the Heritage Highway, visiting the gorgeous historic townships of Evandale (try some of the apple pastry & coffee at the Evandale Bakery!), Campbelltown & the garrison township of Ross (don't miss the famous scallop pies!). We return to Launceston for the afternoon free. Stay Launceston at Country Club & Villas. Day 9 – Today we say goodbye to our coach captain and the city of Launceston. Return flights to Melbourne/Sydney TBA. |
